Writing A Cover Letter: is your cover letter doing it’s job?
My name is Merit Ainsworth. As a business owner I have received a lot of cover letters and resumes from people looking for a job. Sadly most of the cover letters we see are bland and do very little in capturing our attention. This drive me to share a story with you..
True Story…
After a new employee had settled into a position and had befriended a few people in the office, they were curious to know how he got the job. They knew, from experience, I only see a handful of the total resumes submitted and that it takes a lot to impress me into calling you based off a few words written on paper.
He told them that his job search had been going on for several months and he hadn’t gotten one call for an interview. He knew competition for any job is tough these days so he figured his cover letter was his strongest thing he could use to get noticed.
He also went on to say that, “I write and re-write my letters for hours before I can be somewhat proud of what I’ve written”. He admitted that he isn’t a great writer, in fact he said, “I hates to write!”
He said that while searching the Internet that he stumbled across a program called the Amazing Cover Letter Creator, by Jimmy Sweeney. After he bought it, read the material and examples, he used the software to write his cover letter (the one he sent us).
I must say, as a business owner I think the product he found is unique in the career field. It offers each individual an opportunity to craft a personal, “attention-getting” cover letter that can help them land the interview and/or possibly get the job. It worked for him!
Writing a cover letter can be challenging. Writing just isn’t that easy for a lot of people especially when they have to write about themselves!
If you’ve been sending out resumes and not getting a single phone call and would like to turn that around, I believe you’ll be very impressed by Jimmy’s ability to give you an excellent and quick education regarding the essentials of writing a cover letter.
